Benefits of a Pre-K - 8th Grade School
Research and experience demonstrate that attending a PreK-8th grade school like Greene Hill has significant benefits for children including:
Greater opportunities for leadership and gaining confidence. Students are able to take on leadership roles at a younger age, and act as role models for the younger grades. At GHS, middle school students are able to be “top dogs” of the school, and can do so without the judgment of older peers; they teach classes for younger students and run community service programs.
A few more years of letting kids be kids. PreK - 8th schools focus on what is appropriate developmentally at each grade level. At Greene Hill children have the chance to develop alongside their peers outside the influence of older teenagers.
Children who are well known and truly seen. Children are well known by Greene Hill faculty and staff who take a continued interest in them as they advance in age. Being truly known and seen builds security and allows each child to be their true self.
Improved academic achievement. The continuity of teachers, community and traditions creates a cohesive educational journey, allowing students to build strong academic foundations. At GHS children have the opportunity to engage in activities and programs, for example our sports teams, that they might not otherwise have in a larger school with older kids.
Strong sense of community. A close-knit community allows children to have an increased sense of belonging and to build strong relationships with their teachers. Children who join in later grades or mid-year, are warmly welcomed into their classrooms and within weeks it is impossible to discern who is the “new kid”. GHS partners with parents to support their child’s growth, fostering open communication and offering many opportunities to experience life in the classroom, including Math Morning, Curriculum Night, All-School Sing to name just a few.
Fewer school transitions. 5th graders avoid the stress of a school transition at a time of significant developmental challenge and instead become role models for the younger grades and the leaders of the student body.
Easier high school transition. By 8th grade, students truly know themselves as learners and community members, and are well aware of both their strengths and aspirations. With the support of our exmissions team, our 8th graders are fully engaged in the high school application process and are consistently accepted to their top high school choices.
