Annual Events
Greene Hill School is a progressive school with an emphasis on community. We believe that the process of collaboration and working together strengthens a child’s ability to be socially active and aware, to think creatively and critically and to build a strong sense of self.
Special school-wide community events are scheduled each year, celebrating the close partnerships between students, educators, and families.

Grandparents and special friends are an important part of the GHS community. Every May, we host a celebration by inviting grandparents and special friends to our school.

The Greene Affair is the biggest community party of the year with music, delicious food, an auction and dancing. Volunteer efforts and donations raise essential funds for the School’s arts partners, sports and field trip programs as well as support a community ticket price so that, in alignment with our sliding scale tuition, all can choose to celebrate together.
-
Virtual and in-person talks with experts are offered free in partnership with Greene Hill School. Visit School News for more information on upcoming talks.
-
Our Annual Block Party takes place in September, as a way of welcoming the community to the school year. This event is open to our extended community including family members, friends, neighbors, community partners, afterschool providers and more. Join us for bouncy houses, activities, and general festivities to start the year on a high note!

Our annual All-school musical is one of the many ways students at Greene Hill discover new interests and develop their skills as they grow older and gain more experience. Starting in the 4s, children participate in group dance numbers, and by the time they reach middle school, they are helping develop plots, writing lyrics, and creating sets. From the beginning, they understand that “everyone can work together to make a play.” They learn the value of teamwork and the idea that “not everything has to be perfect.” Recent musical titles include “Into the Brain” and ”Submarine Adventures: Tales from an Oceanographer.

Every year, we invite our community to join us on MLK Day for community service projects and educational opportunities. Social Justice is a pillar of Greene Hill School, and as such this day holds great importance to us. In the past, we have assembled care packages for local seniors, hosted volunteers from DOROT’s storytelling Pearls of Wisdom, who perform for and engage the community, promoting intergenerational conversation and inspiring audiences to share stories of their own.

Every year, our alumni community gathers in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park for a beloved tradition: the Annual Alumni Picnic. This event brings together graduates from all years to reconnect, share stories, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon outdoors. Open to all alumni and their families, the picnic features casual games, snacks, and a strong sense of school spirit.
