Generous support of the Fund for Greene Hill is the foundation for upholding our sliding-scale tuition model at Greene Hill School as well as professional development in academic areas, wellness and equity. We hope that families will make GHS their philanthropic priority and make personally significant contributions to the FFGH throughout the year. Remember it is our collective generosity that makes a big impact for all of our students and teachers!
The Fund for Greene Hill is the place where everyone in the Greene Hill community – parents, grandparents, and special friends – can come together to support the school we love.
Greene Hill School parents have had an enviable – and almost unheard of – record of almost 100% family participation in The Fund for Greene Hill!
The goal this year? Everyone contributes!
Greene Hill has a limited number of stakeholders at any one time and that makes the support of each family crucial to the well-being of the school. This is why we ask that you make the Fund for Greene Hill a philanthropic priority while your child is a student here.
Gifts of all sizes support the school. GHS has received gifts ranging from $25 to $25,000 and we appreciate gifts of any amount. Please consider a gift of $170, $1,700, $17,000 or 17% of your tuition this year in support of our 17th birthday!

FAQs
Who contributes to the Fund for Greene Hill?
What is the Fund for Greene Hill?
The Fund for Greene is the way that the Greene Hill School community of parents, board and community members ensure that the school can pay for all of the opportunities our children receive.
Doesn’t our tuition cover the costs of running the school?
No, tuition revenue does not cover the cost of a Greene Hill education.
Tuition covers only about 85% of the cost of running the school in any given year. Greene Hill needs to raise the additional 15% each year just to meet our annual operating budget and continue to offer the curriculum and extracurriculars that make a Greene Hill education like no other.
Almost all independent schools face this challenge every year. It is expensive to run a school in a popular urban area. Brooklyn - the whole city - offers incomparable opportunities from field trips to the ability to attract the most awesome teachers. Everyone wants to be here. But that comes at a cost.
Greene Hill School keeps tuition affordable with our sliding scale tuition model. Is this what causes the gap between tuition and operating costs?
No. Most independent schools have a gap between operating costs and tuition. Greene Hill’s overall financial model is in line with other independent schools of similar size and age.
The sliding scale tuition and the commitment to the idea that every family pays the tuition appropriate to their own financial circumstances is our answer to the more traditional financial aid programs that divide independent school families into those who can pay full tuition and those who cannot.
We believe that every family is a member of our community in full standing and our board members work tirelessly all year to balance the tiered tuition structure.
What’s in the budget? Why is it more than our tuition?
Greene Hill School’s annual budget reflects our community values and it also supports the people and programs that make our school unique and gives our students opportunities that only a small progressive school can provide.
Our teachers and small class size are the heart of our school. Not surprisingly, teacher’s compensation is our largest expense. In addition to our commitment to paying a living wage, Greene Hill pays 100% of the healthcare premium for each teacher. Small classes and committed, educated and trained teachers give our students an intellectually rich and engaging curriculum - teachers are our most important resource and we strive to support them financially and professionally. Rent and ancillary costs of our wonderful building is a significant cost. Everything that makes a GHS education unique is reflected in our budget and we need your help to make it all happen.
