Racial Microaggressions, as defined by Dr. D. W. Sue are “the brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, and environmental indignities that communicate hostile or derogatory racial slights and insults to people of color.” Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) can learn to heal, recover, and develop resilience from these racialized experiences. White people can learn to better understand the impact of racial microaggressions and manage racial anxiety in order to develop resilience for addressing the ones they may commit. After sharing Dr. Sue’s theoretical framework and definition of microaggressions, participants will discuss how microaggressions play out in everyday life and learn strategies for addressing them. Tonight’s session includes a presentation and time for racially based affinity group discussions.
